Studio14

The contemporary art centre HALLE 14 at Leipziger Baumwollspinnerei (Leipzig Cotton Spinning Mill) officially started with its international fellowship programme Studio14 in 2011. The aim of this program is to enable artists to have an intense and well focused work phase in Leipzig. Studio14 awards several residence fellowships of 3 - 4 months to international artists. Once a year HALLE 14 sends out a a thematically predetermined open call for proposals. The theme of the first call (2011) was „What Happened To God?“ After the application deadline a independent jury of experts chooses the residents. The program offers a monthly stipend, a studio at the Leipzig Cotton Spinning Mill and a flat. Part of the Studio14 program is the annual European Residency Exchange Workshop in cooperation with the contemporary art centre WIELS (Brussels) and the school of visual arts MAUMAUS (Lisboa).

Who can apply?

Every artist who would like to produce works of art in accordance with the outlined theme can apply. Students enrolled in a degree-seeking program cannot apply.

Is there a deadline?

Yes, there is a deadline announced with each annual open call for proposals. Please check our website for current open calls.

How to apply?

Send an application including a proposal responding to the predetermined theme of the current open call until the announced application deadline. Further application details (work samples, information about education and exhibitions) will be outlined along with the open call.

How long is the residency?

The artists will stay in Leipzig for 3 - 4 months.

How many artists at the same time?

One or two artist within each residency period.

Does it cost anything?

There is no participation fee.

Any special conditions?

Artists are expected to live in Leipzig during their residency. English and German are the official languages for correspondence, meetings and publications. Participants should have a solid grasp of English or German.

Is there a grant?

The artists will receive a monthly stipend.

Is there studio equipment?

The studio is furnished with a basic equipment for working.

Is there a living spaces?

Studio14 provides a flat or a room during the recidency.

How to find us?

By Car:
A 9: exit ›Leipzig West‹ following B 181 about 5 km towards the city center. 200 m after the ›ARAL‹petrol station take a turn to the right into the Lützner Straße. After about 1 km take a turn to the left into Saarländer Straße. Follow this road about 800 m. Take a turn to the right into the art-district ofthe cotton-mill („Spinnerei“).
A 14: exit ›Leipzig Zentrum/Neue Messe‹ following B 2 towards the city center. Take a turn tothe right into the city ring road. Leave the ring road after about 400m while going straight into the Käthe-Kollwitz-Straße. Follow this road about 4 km. After the railway bridge take a turn to the leftinto the Spinnereistraße. After about 50m take a turn to the left into the art-district of the cotton-mill („Spinnerei“).

By Public Transport: From the main station take the interurban train S 1 (direction ›Miltitzer Allee‹) or tram line 14 (leaves at the West side of the station) to ›S-Bahnhof Plagwitz‹. From S-Bahnhof Plagwitz: walk back to the crossroad of Karl-Heine-Straße, turn left underneath the railway bridge and then left into Spinnereistraße. After about 50 m appears the entry of the cotton-mill („Spinnerei“).

By Plane: The Airport Express leaves every half hour to the main station from airport Leipzig/ Halle. A cab from the airport takes 30 min to: HALLE 14, Baumwollspinnerei Leipzig,
