LIA – Leipzig International Art Programme

LIA Studio

LIA is a non-profit residency programme that fosters artists internationally by providing
them with spacious studios and cultural support, as well as opportunities to exhibit at the Spinnerei Rundgang/ Gallery Tour. The programme offers five 80 square meter big studios where the artists live and work. The studios are furnished. Kitchen and Bathroom facilities are provided and commonly shared.

The programme links young artists with the regional art community. At LIA, both open studios and interdisciplinary panels offer the opportunity for a wider audience to access the world of art and to experience the place where art is created. In this way LIA aims to build a more personal connection between the artist and the audience encouraging discussions about art in the artists actual studio.

LIA enjoys fruitful partnerships with international art institutions such as the Christoph Merian Foundation, Basel and the New York Academy of Art, NYC. Together, alongside the programme’s main sponsor, BMW Plant Leipzig, our partners made it possible for over eighty artists from more than thirty different countries to take part in the LIA programme since 2008. So far artists from countries such as the USA, Australia, China and many more were included.

The programme is also supported by the Office for International as well as Cultural Affairs, City Council of Leipzig. This enabled us to extend our hospitality to Ukrainian, Ethiopian, Israeli and French artists from our partner cities Kiev, Addis Ababa, Herzliya and Lyon. Lord Mayor, Burkhard Jung, is the programme patron.
